This = TEH BIZZOMB. I can't wait to fuss over it in character. "I believe that your beauty eclipses mine!"

Can't sleep costume will eat me can't sleep costume will eat me I can't believe how much painting I can do in a single day and I'm in that crazy yet serene mode where I can just constantly rotate between stuff and progress happens. I'm amazing myself with my newfound ability to sleep very little and work out intensely at the same time. I'm currently focusing on painting my claws and they will be done tomorrow. I wanted to get them done tonight, but there's just too many layers of paint that have to dry in between application. Let's see...one of Randy's leg armor pieces is fully riveted and I think the overall effect is worth the hell we went through with the materials. His arm guards are in progress and easy. I can't figure out what else I want to put on the cape (every reference I have of the upper designs is incomprehensible), so the splatters will stay for now. I started sewing my waist sashes together. In my admittedly biased opinion, they're fucking gorgeous, even without the purple cover for the sash core. Too bad my standard female waist/hip differential makes them poof out and gives away my gender, but they do look w00t. I think it's time for another layer of paint.

Did the cosplayer make that Zhen Ji herself? I've seen a similar outfit advertised on eBay, but I don't want to jump to conclusions. Love the headdress, though.

Are you premiering your DW cosplay at Otakon, or is it going to have to wait for Ohayocon?

Considering that she talked about it on the cosplay.com boards and put a photo in the progress section of her gallery a while back, I'm pretty sure she did. I bet you came across a Zhen Ji made out of the exact same brocades. There's a fairly limited set of silk/rayon brocade prints and colors, and you'll tend to see the same types pop up in DW cosplay when they happen to be dead-on accurate. ^_^

I'm doing my damndest to premiere at Otakon. There's a gathering I would like to join, and there's enough finished (and possible to finish in a well-constructed manner before con) that our characters will be quite recognizable and the costumes will look complete to a casual bystander. For Ohayocon, I would add the lesser details that I'm skipping over because I don't have time to do them properly (like Zhang He's armor pauldrons and rainbow-striped feathers).

I dunno... take a look and tell me what you think.

Definitely post pics of your gathering! I'm a little sorry not to be going to Otakon this year, but them's the breaks, and I'd rather spend the money on a smaller con. The BCC is getting seriously overcrowded, and overcrowded + suffocating heat = not a pleasant con experience. When are you headed down there, Thurs. or Fri.?

Wow...that is quite similar. I didn't have time to look at both outfits in detail, but I can see why you thought the dress may have been made by that tailor. The fabric choices are identical, and various fussy details are the same (for instance, the gold trim down the front has three equal sections in both dresses). The neck brooches are differently shaped, though. In her gallery, the cosplayer mentioned something about the help of her friend and an awesome sewing machine. It wouldn't surprise me if the friend happened to be that same commissioner and gave her a hand. Or, as aitai suggested, she may have used those pictures as a reference. Maybe I'll take a closer look if I get bored after the con. =P

I understand wanting to avoid the Noid con. It is insane, and if you aren't particularly interested in going, it's probably much more annoying than fun. Our original DW group fell apart, but a bunch of our friends are going, so even if I didn't manage to get the costumes working, we'd go just to see stuff and hang out with them. Looking at cosplay galleries online just isn't the same as wandering around a ginormous con PACKED with them. I love going nuts over everything in person.

We're going on Thursday afternoon to pick up our registration. The DW gathering is on Friday at 1, so we definitely don't want to have to wait in line before then. (And our hotel is 10 blocks away and it will take a while to get ready. Wee.) I'll be sure to post pictures, and because the gathering is on Eurobeat King's list, I'm sure he'll have a bunch of good ones to share as well.

She does mention something about comissioning the props.

And damn, rydain, you're supposed to warn my inner fanboy before posting links like that.

i think arafel was comparing the similarities between the dress on ebay and her dress. which to be honest, i initially thought too. of course, if one is looking for good source pictures, it wouldn't be unheard of to design it after something that you saw on ebay.

Yeppers. The outfits won't be 100% done, but they'll most certainly be recognizable. I'll add the missing details later at my leisure. I've had enough of working insanely before a deadline. x_x

On second thought, would Zhang He ever comment on a woman's beauty? Yuh huh huh.

Well...he does compliment everyone with the phrase "Beautiful and talented". Including Zhen Ji. (And Xu Zhu, which never fails to amuse me.) And maybe he's flattering her so she'll act as his beard and he won't get kicked out of the Wei army for inadvertently violating "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

I just wanted to say that on the way to work today, I realized that we never got around to the ultimate assclownery...

Any combination of Gan Ning, Zhou Tai, and Xiahou Dun (OK, he's not literally a pirate, but he has an eye patch, so he can be an honorary one).

And, in other news...me camel toe is made of lesser pirates! (Somebody get that girl a pair of pliers... o_O)
