Dye before and after photo

This was most definitely a happy accident. I think it came out fantabulous (and I even managed to fix my camera's doofy color representation pretty decently in Gimp - I found some color adjustment features that I'd never known existed). I may even use the same two-round application technique for the variegated purple jacket fabric.

Thanks! I'm so happy with the results. It'll be fun to do it again when I figure out how much purple fabric I'm going to need. And I can't wait to see your stuff too! ^_^ If you guys can come up this summer *crosses fingers* I'll be happy to show my in-progress work and help you with anything that you might want to bring along.

Looks terrific - I really like the shading!

Thanks! ^_^ Part of it is a result of layering one random crumply pattern over another, and the rest has to do with separation of dye components. I'm not sure how difficult it is to see, but some areas of the color are yellowy and others are more bluish. I've even seen a few blue swirls elsewhere in the fabric (but I haven't come across any yellow ones yet). The blue is another happy accident of its own because if any of it winds up in the piece I cut for the sash, it will look nifty next to the dark blue swirly backgrounded batik I picked out for the patterned sash. It's not accurate to the official design, but it really jumped out at me as something cool looking and Xiahou Dun-ish, so I couldn't resist.

The first round looked like palm trees to me, though the final product is amazing!
