Russia r0x0rz my s0x0rz. Their copyright laws are set up in such a way that enterprising folks can offer legal downloads of a very wide variety of music for ludicrously low prices (you pay per the amount of bandwidth, and the site pays royalties to a Russian collection agency that distributes them to the artists). There are even free albums, including two from Tori (incidentally, this is where I got the current song - I do actually own the Under the Pink CD, but it's hidden in some box or another and I wanna listen to it now *stomps feet*). You have to sign up for an account in order to do anything, but they don't hand out your info, and if you don't trust the intermediary that takes payment for music (a Russian payment company that actually is quite trustworthy), you can go through PayPal. Using this site from the US is supposedly a legal grey area, but it's not like I'm going to get sued for it, and I don't think it should legally be any different from going to Russia, buying a CD that is, for me, quite cheap, and bringing it back over here. The artist is getting paid for the stuff I grab, so yay.

Costume progress:

- The headband is nearly 100% sewn. It's not fully accurate (I didn't try to replicate the jagged top, and I used a random blue floral print that I liked instead of attempting to recreate the actual pattern of the bottom half), but it's pretty close, and it wound up being quilted because I made it by covering headliner with my sort of fuzzy blue fabric and appliqueing patterned fabric and bias tape on top of that. I really like that effect because it looks polished and adds a unique touch to the piece. All I need to do is turn the fabric ends under and sew them and then attach the Velcro closure and horn. I'm going to pick up some random thick cord trim to glue around the base of the horn after it's on.
- The last coat of spray paint is drying on pauldron #2. The horn is painted, but the paint wound up being more brown and less gold than the color on the paint cap, so I'm going to get more paint tomorrow and respray it.
- I made a waist sash out of some spiffy dark red fabric that happened to be on sale. The stuff frays like crazy, but that forced me to properly finish my seams (I learned to do a French seam weeeeee), and the result looks all perty. I could even wear it as an accessory with normal clothes. Yay for that.

Making stuff like this is teh crackz0r for me. I might try to get Rikku's Machina Maw jumpsuit together for Otakon. Randy and I hadn't originally planned on going, but we decided to drive down and go just for Saturday. I MUST see onezumi's exhibit of artistic w00tness, and besides, we'll be staying with Randy's brother and his fiancee, which will be fun. (They live pretty close to Baltimore, so it will be an easy drive to and from the con.) But I can worry about that later...I have to go make more glove fingers now. Weeee.

It's almost done. Almost. My preciousssssss...

Yep! We didn't originally plan on it because ACEN is going to be expensive enough (we're flying out - 12-hour drives are teh sux) and I didn't feel like paying out the nose for a hotel room in downtown Baltimore, but I have fond memories of our Saturday-only trip to Otakon 2001 (I conveniently forgot about how much I was freaking out over the utterly atrocious traffic that day thanks to the Orioles game and gas spill - then again, I wasn't the one who drove =P), so I think it'll be fun. Hopefully I'll run into you, too. ^_^

Re: sew sew
I had that same problem last week...and this week won't be any different. =P

I sent her an email re: your number, but I'll also call when I get home. If you want, you can send it to me at rydain at rydain dot org (email munged for obvious spam-hating reasons). We'll be coming into Pittsburgh on Wednesday night (plane leaves on Thursday around noonish), so it would be teh w00t if we could drop stuff off along the way. Thanks so much...and if you ever need a similar favor in the future, I'll be quite happy to oblige. ^_^
