Yes. They are actually making a movie out of Metroid.

I have exactly one thought on this at the moment: whoever portrays Samus had better have muscles. If she doesn't, she needs to get her ass in the weight room in preparation for the role. If this powerful, athletic badass of a character winds up being a noodle-limbed sexpot who looks like she would snap in half if she picked up a dumbbell that wasn't coated in neon vinyl, I'll shit myself.

Speaking of which, I've been meaning to write a rant about the perceived attractiveness of muscular women. I wouldn't presume to dictate other people's aesthetic preferences or anything like that, but it annoys me that most of the women in the airbrushed pictures of mainstream media have arms and legs with no more than the slightest hint of definition, yet nobody does that to the male models. You'll certainly find skinny airbrushed guys, but there are men with muscles as well, and I don't see any similar body type diversity among the women. What's even more offensive (to me, at least) is that I saw some photo spread of Olympic athletes in Maxim a while back (don't ask - Rando's dad subscribed to it, and we were staying at his place), and these women (who were CERTAINLY athletic and fit, with some degree of muscularity) were posed and airbrushed to look as languid and weak as possible. What the hell?

Maxim actually airbrushed Lucy Lawless to look anorexic.

YOu should read this book called Bodymakers. Its written by a female bodybuilder and talks about gender and body shape, and the oh so famous fitness model vs bodybuilder thing.

That's disgusting, but knowing Maxim's art direction, it somehow doesn't surprise me. Thanks for the book recommendation - that sounds like an excellent read!

Oooo....Metroid movie *drool*
I sure hope it'll be good!
And I agree, Samus had better have some muscle. I mean, I know it's a power suit, but still...

Peta Wilson might make a good Samus. She's pretty fit, and not a twig with boobs.

It's a well-known fact: movies based on video games are 99% likely to suck, and vice versa. They will probably cast Angelina Jolie as Samus--no, wait, that happened with Tomb Raider.

I so often hear people—both men and women—express disgust at the physical appearance of female bodybuilders (the kind with huge muscles, not just ones who are toned). ::sigh:: I dunno, I just don't share their repulsion; I find their reaction a little disturbing, but it's tough to argue about aesthetics.
