I feel so butch right now
Paraphrased event that took place at tonight's Carnivores practice:

Kara: Um, Gillian, I really hate to ask you this, but do you think you could sing tenor on Evaporated?
Me: .........I GET TO SING TENOR?! w00000000000000t!

The deal is that there aren't very many Carnivores at the moment, and we don't actually have any tenors. We have two guys who sing - Stix and Payne - but when one does lead, the other has to cover the bass part, leaving a big gaping hole where the tenor line is supposed to go. Payne has the lead on Evaporated, so there you go. I'm technically an alto, but my range goes low enough that I can hit most of the notes in the tenor part to that song, which I've always liked because it's interesting and complex and challenging to master. For a while, I'd been singing the bit of it that I knew at random times just because I thought it was nifty. I thought I'd never get to do it, though, because I don't quite have the testosterone or vocal training to reliably hit the B-flat underneath the C below middle C. (Sometimes I can quietly get one out, but that doesn't exactly work for a cappella performance.) So when Kara asked me if I could try it, I was totally psyched (and after I learned the really tricky bridge a bit better, I didn't do a half-bad job, either).

The only problem is that my voice gets tired faster because I'm singing in the very bottom of my range, but I think that this will be good practice for my lowest notes.
