Our old carpet. Chester says DO NOT WANT.

This bathroom used to be half pink carpet and half sheet vinyl with assorted permacrud all over it. We had it all replaced with American Olean octagon and dot tile. The seafoam green tile surround is original to the house and still in excellent condition after 40+ years.

Apologies for the cruddy picture. It's difficult to get a good angle of the foyer.

Anyway, this all used to be pink carpet. The tile is Daltile Gold Rush in Golden Nugget laid in a hopscotch pattern. I can't remember the name of the grout color offhand, but it's some sort of beige. The tile tends to look paler and more sandy in real life. We picked it out because it coordinates with the general color of hickory, and its pattern is subtle enough to add visual interest without clashing with the strong variegation of the wood.

And now for the piece de resistance. This replaced the (you guessed it) pink carpet everywhere else. It's Bruce American Treasures 3/4" solid prefinished hickory, 2 1/4" wide strip. I was sold on hickory after falling in love with photos of other floors and reading that hickory is an especially hard wood, and I think it looks beautiful in our house. The color obviously variegates between pale and deep brown, but it can also be pinkish or silvery gray, and the wood is full of dark streaks, grain, small knotholes, and other character marks.
