Yeah. I've been boring lately. Sorry. But I just had to post about the state of Dissonance before going away for the weekend. I actually hit this word count last night, so if I can write some more before packing up, I'll be ahead. I didn't bother bringing my laptop on last weekend's trip because I managed to get a full day ahead on my word count, but I'm taking it this time. Right now, I'm working on the end and some extra content in the middle. I've actually been revising the novel during the process, which I know is supposed to be a no-no, but I found that it was necessary to keep me liking my work. There really isn't much that I chucked altogether. Most of the revisions were just shifting the order of various pieces of the story and changing small bits of dialogue and events to fit the patterns of Harry's bizarre experiences as I decided upon them. I'd think something was going to go one way, decide that that didn't give me much room to work with in the future or I didn't like the way it was going, and have to hammer it into something else. Of course, it's still a rough draft, but I think it's pretty cohesive for being speed written with nothing but the opening scene, some characterization for Harry, and prewriting that I wound up basically ignoring because I realized that I was trying too hard to plan the weirdness and make it Mean Something. It was much better for me to just let weird stuff happen and worry about patterns as I observed them. Then again, the prewriting let me rule out themes that I knew I wouldn't want to write about (at least not in this particular story...they might be viable for a less likable main character, but not now), so it did help to some extent.
I had a dream last night that I was actually working on two NaNos at the same time, and I only had about 7000 words of the second one. I can't remember what the second one was about. (I don't even have any other story ideas at the moment.) It was just strange.
