Yep. Over 1/5 of the way done. Between not knowing what to do with the story and being technical lead on a project at work, I was feeling pretty stressed yesterday, but I'm over my word quota, and that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
This year's novel is called Dissonance. (The similarity with last year's title, Resonance, is partly intentional. It may be corny, but it does work with the content, so I'll go with it kthx.) As you may guess from the synopsis of the opening scene, it's another rubber reality horror. I got the idea a long while ago when I dreamed about the opening scene and it stuck with me. I'm writing the story episodically right now, just thinking about things that happen to the main character (whose name is Harry, but trust me, this is not a total Silent Hill ripoff - I wanted to give him a different name, but Harry is such a perfect Quiet Nice Guy That You Feel Sorry For name that it totally stuck).
Let's just hope I can keep up the pace even though I'll be out of town for three weekends straight. DangerBook #1, my awesome work-provided PowerBook, is coming along for the ride, so I know I'll get writing done, but the main problem is that I won't be able to depend on the weekends for laying down boatloads of words. I don't think that will actually be a problem. Last year, I started a week late, completely goofed off on one Saturday, and had multiple subpar days, but I finished 50K words early anyway. I know I'll finish again this year, even if I have to write a load of boring bullshit about Harry's trip to the grocery store or whatever.
On a completely different note, if you recognize my icon, you already know how awesome the new Sam and Max game is. If you don't - and you're a fan of silly graphical adventures and you run Windows - check it out. I've heard that they plan on releasing an OS X version eventually.
