To make a long story short because I'm not done gathering my spoiler-free thoughts - Silent Hill isn't the worst movie I've ever seen, but I thought it was a pile of meh overall. I liked the visuals and the music from the games (though it was awkwardly placed at times), but the movie didn't set a properly creeped-out, foreboding atmosphere, and its exposition was uneven. I wish I could make everyone responsible for Silent Hill watch Jacob's Ladder Clockwork Orange-style. Someone spoiled the very end of Jacob's Ladder for me before I got to see it, but it was still compelling, suspenseful, and creepy. It built up well, developed the characters, gave me a reason to care about the lead, had a consistent backstory revealed in bits to be pieced together, and left enough ambiguity to be interesting on subsequent viewings.
Chester is a sleepy curl on my desk. He just chirped at me.
