OMG WEEEEEEEEEEE
I just paid for my soon-to-be-commissioned Zhang He wig. Yes...I did stay up to babysit the auction. Yes...I am a cosplay nut. It's all good, though...I'm too wound up to sleep, so it didn't bother me any. *happy dances all over the room*

In other news, my spiffy satin has arrived and I'm trying to figure out the best way to finish the pants. I can't follow the pattern's directions because they're meant for fabric that holds a crease and doesn't fray like crazy. Methinks I shall pick up some seam tape tomorrow and use it to help me make the waistband casing and the cuffs. I'll put up a picture once they're done. I'm just way too damn proud of how I got the fabric pattern to behave itself. ^_^

Thanks. ^_^ You should totally do a Lulu! You have plenty of time, so you can work slowly and make sure everything is just right. (Beware, ramble ahead...)

This monstrous cosplay.com thread has tons of info on making the costume. Personally, if I were to create a Lulu costume, I'd make the top a real corset with spiral steel boning (which is reputed to be much better and more durable than the plastic variety) and do the lace trim by coloring bridal lace motifs (which come in all sorts of interesting patterns, many of which are similar to Lulu's) with something like Dharma Fiber Reactive dye (there are cheaper dyes out there, like Rit, but their lightfastness isn't so great - Dharma sells only pro quality stuff, so I would personally only use the dyes they carry). (Of course, you'd have to make sure that the lace contained enough natural fiber to take dye decently. You wouldn't want to get lace that was, say, mostly polyester.) The lace could then be sewn or glued to the dress. (I'd probably sew it just because I'm anal.) A cosplay.com member who goes by freakyarcher made her Lulu lace in a similar fashion. It looks absolutely fantastic and is probably less annoying to do than, say, painting on all the shapes individually (which is what some folks choose to do - I've seen some great paint jobs, but I like the look of the lace shapes better). Whatever you use for the dress fabric, be sure that it is substantial enough to hold the shape of the circular skirt well. You'll probably have to reinforce the front opening with something like heavy denim so it won't sag and be generally icky under the weight of the belts.

i wish you lived next door to me to help me with this! you are just awsome.

I would DEFINALTY get a real corset fo the top...PFFT!! And the lace i would be SUPER anal about, cause i've seen some bad bad takes on that bit.

The sagging is also a common problem i see that bugs me. I have a buch of ideas kicking aorund in how to do this...my biggest concering is 1-losing more wait and hoping my boobs stay nice ^^2- collecting all thoses belts 3-the lace.

and of course the money to do this...lol. but like you said, i have time ;)

Yay! I can't wait to get at least some part of it done enough to take a picture of. I've been making glacial progress. >_< Do you have any progress pix yet? I'm excited to see how your costumes are coming along as well... ^_^
