AAAARRRGGGGHHH
Hey kids! Do you have a prop with a slightly irregular surface? Want to make it look like crap? Out of ideas? Never fear...Donny Don't is here!

Get yourself some metallic gold spray paint. It has next to no filling capability, so every single doot and scratch - no matter how small - will be highlighted by its shininess. Guuuhhhh...the goldish-brown spray paint I'd bought for my horn turned out to be brown and not goldish at all, so I thought I'd spruce it up with some of the metallic stuff, but no - it made it look asstastic. Well, it was actually just the bottom surface that looked bad, so I sanded it down a bunch and put some more brown paint on it. After that dries, I'll put one very thin coat of gold paint on (which actually will look neat). I figure I'll just have fun painting the horn and go for some weird variegated look. It'll work out in the end. It always does.

(Cue up some '50s-style intermission music as Uncle G-funk sews on one glove finger, screws up the second, can't rip it off because her eyes are blurring like crazy, starts sewing Velcro to her headband, and finally conks out. A few hours later, she hauls herself out of bed to get ready for work and can't resist taking a peek at the horn.)

That really did work. w000000tness. I had to put a couple of spritzes of brown on it because there were some gold spots left from sanding, but it doesn't even look assy with just the brown on the bottom (and it appears that I managed to get one of those thin coats of gold paint on the top of the horn before I went to bed...I can't really remember doing so, but it gives the effect I was after, and hey, complaining about mystery costume progress is like being upset about finding mystery money in my pants pockets). This will work. Yes. It will. I'm going to refrain from making another Gollum reference because it's probably starting to get old for all of y'all. =P

Thanks. ^_^

I am so going to be r0x0ring the Vivarin tonight, though. It is possible for me to think and program on little to no sleep (ah, the extracurricular skills we learn at college), and I can always make Randox drive and pass out in the car, which is what we did for Otakon 2002.
