/me is loopy
People want to go out for breakfast at 9 a.m. I like people and I love going out for breakfast. The problem is that I can rarely get up in time to do so. Thus, I'm staying up all night. I don't have to be coherent until Monday (if I'm fucked up on Sunday, I can always bug Rando to help me drive home), so why not take advantage of vacation while it's still here?

I finally beat Silent Hill 3 the other night. The promise of an unlimited submachine gun got me out of my SH3 avoidance/inertia rut. I had to do the final boss battle three times (once to stupidly try to kill it using only the Maul, once to count how many handgun bullets it took to destroy it, and once to get it near-dead with the handgun and then use the Maul to finish it off, which counts as killing it with a melee weapon and therefore unlocks the ultimate weapon of w00tness), but DAAAAAMN, this thing was so worth the trouble. I'm finally playing on Normal mode, seeing what the monsters are supposed to act like, and having an awesome time (as opposed to simultaneously swearing at the TV and cursing my ineptitude at dodging said monsters).

I had considered bringing my sewing machine and muslin here, but I decided not to because I thought I would neither have space nor time to work on stuff. Now I'm wishing that I did. There's tons of room, the house is quiet, and I can't wait to get cracking on my outfit. Thanks to playing a crapload of FFX-2, I know nearly all of the costume details, but there's just one thing I'm still confused about: the exact design of the bikini top. The front and back make sense - they're basically a band of fur that wraps around Rikku's back with a skinnier strip of white fur connecting the front - but I don't understand how the straps are supposed to work. The front of the top looks like a triangle top, so you'd expect it to have a thin halter strap, but two thick back straps are clearly visible, and you can't see where or how they connect because they're hidden by Rikku's armor.

Now that I'm thinking about it, why don't I just interpret the costume's body fur as a string bikini, which would be a hell of a lot easier to design and fit and resemble Rikku's default clothing more anyway? (For those of you who are unfamiliar with the game, the characters' job class outfits often retain some element of the clothing that they wear during the rest of the game. This isn't always the case, but I like that idea, so I figure that if I decide to alter the costume design, I might as well go with it.) The top would wind up looking pretty much the same as the original (from the front at least), and the bottom would be similar: patterned fur with white fur trim and white straps.

Hrm...so perhaps I am making costume progress here after all... ^_^

I just got FFX-2, and from what I can see, I think you're right about her top. It looks a heckuva lot like a bikini top, and I think the only reason why it resembles a halter is because the designers are dumb and don't understand the physics of clothing. Besides, a fur string bikini would be super cute :p

Heehee, I can't wait to see the finished costume!
