My blood type is fudge
Christmas road trip family baked goods overload, plus homebrew from the in-laws' neighbors. I even managed to keep my 6 a.m. - 12 p.m. vacation sleep schedule. Tomorrow my ass goes back to the gym.

I also spent a great deal of time dinking around with my shiny new Dreamwidth layout. (Peanut gallery: What's Dreamwidth, Uncle G-Funk?) It's based on a fork of Livejournal's code, and here's why I jumped there.

You may have noticed that Livejournal's comment page design has shat the bed. Massive customer outcry has had little effect, and signs point to worse interface mangling in the future. Between LJ higher-ups' disdain for its userbase and Dreamwidth's reputation for respecting its own, I figured it was about time to start mirroring. Until the end of the year, you can sign up free - no invite code required. In the future, I should have some invites to hand out. I'm not entirely sure how that works.

I will continue to cross-post, so feel free to stay with LJ if you prefer it. Just extending the offer is all.

#1: Thanks for taking the effort to cross-post. This curmudgeon appreciates it, especially since so many people seem to have all but abandoned their LJ in favor of Facebook [insert long-winded rant about why I can't ever be on Facebook].

I've noticed several comment pages (yours included, mine not) seem to be functioning as before, subject lines and all. Any thoughts on that? I tried sifting through some links last night, but got sick of reading NerdInterfaceRage at 2a.m., and you seem to be a little more in-the-know than myself. My best guess is that it's because I still have a Basic account.

Honest question, no Snarcasm(tm) intended: Is LJ really so deplorable that it's worth leaving for Greener Pastures over this incident, before giving said outcry some time to sink in? I'm thinking back to the Netflix/Qwikster near-fiasco, where everything seemed to work out in the end.

No problem. Dreamwidth makes it super easy to cross-post, and I understand that many LJ'ers would prefer to stick with their original service.

I have subject lines because my journal is using the S2 style system. You're on the S1 system, which was rewritten into Playskool hell. If you can switch to S2 on a basic account (I can't remember the official tiers of layout privilege), you can get a better comments page. At the very least, you can make the new comment pages look less horrible with the Stylish Firefox plugin and this style.

I don't think LJ is worth leaving at the moment. Fuggo as the changes might be, I'm sure it will remain OK for general purposes of keeping in touch with friends. I'm holding on to my account because I follow enough LJ-only friends-locked content, and it seems pointless to baleet it anyway - especially if the pastures stop stinking of cow shit in the future. My Dreamwidth account is a FREE STUFF SHINY WEEEEE, just-in-case alternative, and way to make friends and influence people who use that instead of LJ.

I actually updated to S2 this morning, hoping that would fix the problem. It may still look like S1, but that's b/c I manually got rid of the annoying stuff on the sidebar (which, for me, is the sidebar itself). Or perhaps I just need to be patient and wait for the servers to commit the change.

Which theme are you using? It's one of the not-intolerable ones, but I couldn't seem to find it.

It's called Flexible Squares.
