*buuuuuurp*
I just did something that I haven't done in recent memory.

I cooked.

Usually I do the grocery shopping and Rando does most of the cooking, and when he doesn't feel like making anything or I'm not really hungry, I grab something small that involves basically no effort to get into an edible state. For some reason, the idea of preparing food had grown into a frightful ordeal in my mind. You have to wash stuff, chop stuff, put it all together, make sure it doesn't catch on fire, and then put away the leftovers and hose out your pots and pans and cutting surfaces. And sometimes you fuck up and wind up with something that you really don't want to eat. Over time, I slowly realized that it really isn't that big of a deal, and if you create an inedible pile of blah, you can always toss it in the trash and go to Taco Bell or something. Also, if you clean up right after you eat, things don't get all sticky and gross and require more effort to clean later.

So, earlier tonight, I made some simple vegetable fajitas. I cut up a zucchini, two peppers, an onion, and a small jalapeno pepper. I heated a tablespoon or two of olive oil in our new wok until it was ready for frying. (To test, you toss a few drops of water in and see if they sizzle. See, I do know some things about preparing food. ^_^) I added some chopped garlic and the jalapenos first, and after I swirled them around for a bit, in went the rest of the veggies. Now all I had to do was stir them around until they cooked down somewhat. After we ate, I washed what I had used.

This entire process took about an hour, and I don't have any dirty cookware to taunt me as I try to relax. Nice deal, eh?

mmm fajitas
mmm, that sounds so good! congrats on having a fun cooking day. i know what you mean about daunting dishes though. you are right about washing them right away...or at least if nothing else, soaking them immediately.

A winner is you.

With practice, you'll get that hour down to about 16 minutes ;)
